As we get older, our skin begins to wrinkle and sag – and I find it absolutely fascinating. In the past year, I’ve noticed my thirty plus years starting to show in my skin. But I don’t find these changes scary, and I hope that none of you do, either.
Discovering the first age-related lines and texture changes was a bit odd, I’ll give you that, but I was mostly confused by how nice the thought of ageing felt to me – after all, my womanhood only seems to have strengthened as I’ve become older. Since discovering those first few lines, my head’s been filled with thoughts of how to externally affect signs of ageing – not because we should be fighting wrinkles, as for me, skincare is primarily about everyday luxury and loving my body – but so that our skin would mature with as much vitality as possible.
I recommend reading the post on skincare basics that I wrote in January. It might surprise you how any of us have room for improvement in our skincare routines, and false ideas about skin care in general.
Good products are important if you want visible improvement. The best products an make your skin age beautifully: with proper hydration, the skin will be soft and smooth to the touch, with wrinkles appearing smoother and less noticeable than in skin that is badly cared for. And where neglected skin care will produce dull, tight, or rough skin, quality products will even out the skin tone, helping you to maintain a bright and glowing complexion.
A high-quality moisturizer is the number one product to invest in if you want the best for your skin. I have chosen three luxury creams from Naturelle that are designed to fight signs of ageing, and which I have been trying out for the past month (I began using the Neal’s Yard cream in November). As they all meet my requirements for a perfect, effective anti-age cream, I thought I would share them with you. Next month, we’ll be looking at some potent anti-age serums an concentrates.
People often wonder when they should start using anti-age products. In natural cosmetics, even products for younger skin often contain antioxidants that fight free radicals, as well as repairing vegetable oils; in anti-age products, the amount of antioxidants, vitamin, and brightening and moisturizing active ingredients has been maximized. There’s no harm in using anti-age products on younger skin, but after hitting 25 – and by 30 at the latest – products with higher concentrations of active ingredients are recommended.
Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense Facial Creme
The consistency of Neal’s Yard Remedies’ most effective cream is divine. The cream is rich and silky, without clogging the pores at all. I’m honestly baffled as to how the consistency was produced – unlike you might expect, there are hardly any consistency-regulating ingredients in the cream, but only a long list of conditioning active ingredients. This one’s my favorite.
What’s special about it: this potent cream contains gardenia stem cells, as well as a combination of three different peptides that boost collagen production and make the skin more supple. Argan oil contains heaps of smoothing fatty-acids and free-radical damage-correcting antioxidants. Turmeric extract and frankincense oil brighten the skin, and make it more radiant. The product has been tested with the help of the World Medical Association. More information about the product can be found in my post from December.
Who can use it: the cream is suited for all skin types apart from oily skin. Also suited for men.
Suki Facial Lift Ultimate Firming Cream
Suki’s bestseller has a perfect oil-free and hydrating consistency. It is great for dry skin, but depending on your skin type, you might require an oil to go with it (but we’re all using oils anyway, right?). The potent anti-age qualities and light consistency of this cream make it perfect for those of us whose pores are prone to clogging.
What’s special about it: has a very high concentration of potent ingredients. The brightening and firming ingredients, which also fight infections and impurities, include yeast extract, caffeine, and vitamin C. The product also contains a healthy dose of moisture-binding hyaluronic acid, which helps to smooth out lines.
Who can use it: suited for dry, combination, and oily skin, and even normal skin in the summer months. Also suited for men.
Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Moisturizer
With a consistency that is both silky and rich, but not too oily or congesting, the Stem Cellular Moisturizer from Juice Beauty is the (quite literal) cream of the anti-age crop. The cream comes in an air-tight jar, with an applicator that gives you just the right amount of product; the applicator also keeps the cream from being exposed to oxygen, thus helping to preserve its ingredients. It has a refreshing scent of lemongrass.
What’s special about it: the Stem Cellular products are based on mild fruit acids from fruit juices, as well as fruit (apple, grape, and lemon) stem cells. The cream is packed with repairing, firming and brightening antioxidants, and vitamin C. The mild fruit acids make the active ingredients more easily absorbed.
Who can use it: the cream is suited for all skin types apart from oily skin. Also suited for men.
Our skin reflects our inner, as well as our mental, health. Together with our external skin care routines, a balanced life, happiness, and joy are the best ingredients for beauty. Beauty is always comprehensive, and that’s the secret to beautifully ageing skin.
