Good news from the makeup front – American makeup brand RMS Beauty has landed in Finland!

RMS Beauty is the creation of New York-based makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift, whose work can be seen in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle, worn by people like Cindy Crawford, Demi Moore, Tilda Swinton, Milla Jovovic and Sofia Coppola.

As is often the case, Rose-Marie’s own health was what got her interested in the chemicals found in cosmetics, and, following a life-changing event, she began developing her own makeup range. Read the whole story here.

The RMS foundation has reached cult status by now, and I myself am one of the avid fans of the product – it is hands-down the best natural cosmetics makeup foundation out there. As a matter of fact, it is better than any synthetic foundation, ever. The foundation, as well as the luminizer from the same range, are also featured in my Beauty Guide.

The range is one of the most natural ones I know of, the INCI is very easy to read and understand, and there are no gimmicks involved in the use of ingredients. The final product is very good, despite its virtual lack of fillers; the full list of ingredients for the foundation is coconut oil, resin oil, beeswax, cacao butter, and rosemary extract – all organic. The colors are from mineral pigments. That’s it.

I think the makeup foundation is appropriate for all skin types, including oily skin, though I first doubted it. However, used together with Coleur Caramel’s Silk Powder, the foundation will indeed last on oily skin, as well. The RMS range includes a loose powder made entirely out of milled silica, and though chalk-white in the container, once applied to the skin the powder is almost entirely translucent. I personally prefer the Silk Powder, which is likewise based on silica, but with a soft tint. The RMS powder leaves my skin looking just a bit too pale, but it might be perfect for someone else.

The foundation has enough coverage to mask rosacea and other flushing, as well as de- or hyper-pigmentation, but it can also be worn in a thin, sheer layer – as with Irosies BB-Cream, for example, the final look is all up to you. My favorite colors are 22 for the winter, 33 with a light tan, and 44 when I’m properly bronzed.

Another favorite is the luminizer, which I apply in the mornings before foundation, regardless of the foundation in question (though Juice Beauty’s CC-Cream doesn’t really require it). The luminizer gives a lovely, natural glow, and can also be worn on top of your foundation to highlight the brow, the bridge of the nose, and the tops of your cheeks.

I also love the lip2cheek pots which, as the name indicates, are lovely when worn on lips and cheeks. My favorite color is the coral red Smile.

As high-quality as some of the products in the range are, I have to say that the eye shadows and mascara are best left at the store. The formula of the mascara is like the formulas of most natural cosmetics mascaras – runny, gives no volume, and straightens the lashes after you’ve curled them. The shadows on the other hand are greasy – not oily, but greasy. Let me know if you know what that is about, because I don’t.

There’s a third natural cosmetics makeup range from across the Atlantic, besides Kjaer Weis and RMS Beauty, that I love – you’ll be hearing more about that very soon.

RMS Beauty products are sold in Finland by Liinun hoitola on Fleminginkatu, and in her webshop. I do however recommend making the trip to the actual salon in Kallio, and having lunch at Sandro while you’re at it.
