Perioral dermatitis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Perioral dermatitis (POD) is a rash that appears around the mouth. Its symptoms include redness around the mouth, itchiness and dryness, as well as the appearance of tiny bumps very close to each other that can get inflamed. Sometimes the rash can spread even up to the corners of the eyes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cause for perioral dermatitis is unknown, but quite often it appears due to using cosmetics products that are too strong. However, reasons behind it may include an already imbalanced hydrolipidic film of the skin, a weakened protective barrier, bacterial imbalance, and quite often also disturbed gut as well as prolonged stress. In addition, too harsh detergents, strong cosmetics products and overuse of products that strongly activate the skin may cause a breakout of POD. It can be triggered by both synthetic and natural cosmetics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In treating perioral dermatitis, the most important thing is to have a minimal amount of skin care products that are as simple as possible. Avoid products that activate the skin and refrain from using exfoliators and masks as long as symptoms are active. The skin mustn\u2019t be washed with soap, foams or gel cleansers; instead, use a mild cleansing milk. Preferably choose products that contain little or no perfumes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to cleansing, remember to take care of the skin\u2019s basic needs: to add moisture to the skin, use toner and a thin moisturizer, and follow up with a face oil. As additional support, you should also include a product that contains probiotics, as it will help in improving the bacterial balance of the skin and strengthen the protective barrier. If the rash is very strong, even the probiotic product can initially irritate the skin, so you should always begin the treatment slowly, observing the reactions of the skin. Make sure that your toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, household cleaning agents and laundry detergent don\u2019t contain any sulphites. In addition, replace all household detergents with natural ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
