The One and Only Flu Remedy

Social media runs rampant with the most curious flu remedies as soon as the flu-season is upon us. I’ve tried all kinds of potions over the yeas myself, from honey, ginger and lemon, to Echinacea and garlic (I’ve also tried sleeping with garlic stuffed down my socks and in my ears).

Then I found oregano oil. I haven’t needed any potions since.

As I mentioned before, I woke up one morning last week feeling like I had a cactus stuck in my throat. There were no hints of anything with this one, it was full on, half-inch spikes lining my throat. My temperature started getting elevated as I was sipping my morning coffee, my eyes felt familiarly gritty, and I had the type of pressure in my head that is typical with the flu. I took four drops of oregano oil.

I had the whole day booked full, including an appearance on a certain radio show which I wouldn’t have missed for the world. I had no intention of up under a blanket.

Throughout the day I went from feeling better to feeling worse, and back again. After the radio show I felt completely done-in. I even grumbled to myself about having imagined the effectiveness of the oil, although it had never let me down before. I took another two doses of the oil during the day, four drops each time.

At around 7.30pm, as I was finally on my way home, I felt the soreness in my throat slowly easing. By the time I was ready for bed I felt almost back to normal. The next day I woke up completely healthy, as if I nothing had ever happened.

I’ve never shared remedies of any kind on the blog before, and don’t intend to make a habit of it in the future, either – magic remedies are magnets arguments and controversy, and are best left for other social media sites. Still, I have used oregano oil to cure many ailments, including burgeoning colds or flus, but this time its potency was truly dumbfounding. So, as an exception, I decided to share this tip with you. The oil is too good to be kept a secret, and if it saves even just one person from an unnecessary, gut-flora-killing course of antibiotics, I’ll be happy.

Let it be said that even just one drop of this oil has enough kick to make you hair fall out, so beware. Diluting it will make it easier to take, and won’t burn your mouth. I take mine undiluted.

More information on oregano oil and the ailments it can alleviate can be found by googling, and also here. Just make sure the oil has a high carvacol content.

My undiluted oregano oil was purchased at NaturaZone on Lönnrotinkatu.
